“Perfect Sculpt with Decent Articulation”
Our Rating: 4.5
Now, we’re well aware there are times when an action figure from this line disappoints.
However, believe us when we say this general obi wan Kenobi black series figure is one of the best out there.
The only problem you’ll have after reading our review is when you’re going to get out and buy this action figure of everyone’s favorite jedi mentor.
The Kenobi Army
Ever since Hasbro launched their 6inch figure line for Star Wars the Black Series, Kenobi figures have been one of their staples.
There’s the Black Series’ Obiwan Kenobi jedi version; his Episode II costume, when he fought Count Dooku; or that other comic con exclusive based on Alec Guinness.
There’s certainly no shortage of Kenobi figures out there.
The release of this general obi wan Kenobi black series figure, based on his appearances in the Clone Wars TV series, is long overdue.
Trading his Jedi robes for armor, the Star Wars Black Series General Kenobi action figure is perfect for fighting droids alongside your clone troopers.
Top Tier Packaging
You get the usual packaging with this 6 inch figure, as it comes with the standard Star Wars the Black Series window box.
And, as with all other toys from this line, the general Kenobi black series figure features amazing artwork in the front.
On the back, you’ll see a short description about Obiwan Kenobi: clone commander and Clone Warshero.
Tools of War
When it comes to the star wars black series general Kenobi’s accessories, we’d say you get about three of these.
It might be four, depending on how you look at it, but more on that later.
As such, the star wars black series clone commander Obi Wan Kenobi’s accessories include: his cape, his clone wars utility belt, and his lightsaber.
To be honest, we’re neither thrilled nor disappointed by the number of accessories of this Obiwan Kenobi figure.
After all, this is pretty much the standard for jedi figures, be it the black series Luke Skywalker figure or Kit Fisto.
Still, it doesn’t take away how amazing this general Kenobi black series figure is -easily one of our top five Obiwan Kenobi figures right now.
A Solid Warrior
Of course, as with the standard materials used for this toy line, the general Kenobi black series figure is made of PVC.
That means you get a pretty sturdy figure that you could pose dynamically in various positions—supposedly (again, more on that later!).
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that this general obi wan Kenobi black series figure also had fabrics included in the whole shebang.
And that’s not unusual, considering these star wars collectibles mix in different materials from time to time.
Examples include the black series Luke Skywalker from the end of the Force Awakens or Count Dooku.
Hasbro’s Star Wars black series clone commander Obi-Wan Kenobi features a thin fabric cape not unlike the ones we’ve already seen from this toy line before.
A Blue Lightsaber?
Now, there’s nothing wrong with the packaging of this general Kenobi black series figure, as you might be pointing out that his lightsaber should be green.
However, that’s how it really appears on the show, so it’s definitely what should come with something like this general Obi-Wan Kenobi black series figure.
Now, when you take it out of the box, you’ll notice that the lightsaber hilt and blade come separately.
This is usual, but could be a choking hazard, so make sure you don’t let kids 3 years old and below fidget with it.
Kyber Crystal Sword!
As for the lightsaber itself, it’s beautifully sculpted and painted: a feature that’s become the norm for Black Series lightsabers.
So much so, that this particular version on the general Kenobi black series figure looks like it’s straight out of the star wars battlefront ii game.
Don’t get us wrong, though: this particular lightsaber hilt and blade sculpt for the general obi wan Kenobi black series figure is nothing new.
Barring the color of the blade, this lightsaber hilt is tried and tested version for the Kenobi figures.
But like they say, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” so this accessory definitely gets an A+ in our book.
Just like Batman…
Every good her needs a cape, and the Star Wars black series clone commander Obi-Wan Kenobi figure is no exception to that rule.
The cape is made of a really thin piece of lightweight fabric, so it won’t affect the stability of the 6inch figure when you’re posing it.
However, it is this same quality that makes it rather flimsy.
Therefore don’t expect any articulation from the general Kenobi black series figure’s cape the way you’d see it on, say, a Mafex figure.
Still, it’s pretty clever how they chose to implement this non-removable accessory on the general Obi Wan Kenobi black series figure.
It’s a single piece of fabric that’s specifically placed to act as both a cape and tunic for this clone commander.
Caped Crusader, or…?
Much like the Dark Knight, this general Kenobi black series toy comes with a utility belt.
After all, you can’t fight the clone wars without ample supplies for you and your clone trooper allies, right?
It’s made of PVC material and, like the cape, is also a non-removable accessory for the Star Wars black series general Kenobi figure.
It’s nothing too special: it has adequate sculpt and a single, white paint job on it.
There’s really nothing much to say about it other than it does the job.
Yup, depending on how you look at it, the Star Wars black series clone commander Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, has 3-4 accessories.
The fourth accessory is the base for the figure.
Now, we’ve mentioned before how this toy line would be so much better if they included a base with their figures, and it seems they’re listened.
Honestly, we have no complaints with this action figure base that comes with the Star Wars black series general Kenobi figure.
It’s small, light, and is just enough to keep your action figure standing in pretty action-oriented poses.
The General Gist
The general Kenobi black series figure, as we’ve mentioned, belongs to the 6-inch line.
It’s just slightly smaller than those dc collectibles figures you see in stores.
And just like most of those toys from dc collectibles, the Star Wars black series clone commander obi-wan Kenobi is beautifully sculpted.
Especially considering that this is a figure based on a real-life actor’s likeness, Hasbro’s “secret” 3D printing and face-mapping technology really paid off.
Suffice it to say that the general Kenobi black series figure’s press images do not do it justice: the actual release version is far better than advertised.
And that’s no easy feat: it’s pretty easy to sculpt and mold the head of a sith trooper or a clone trooper figure.
But that’s not the case with Star Wars the Black Series’ human figures.
The one thing that makes the general Kenobi black series figure stand out from all the other Obiwan Kenobi figures out there is the photorealistic head sculpt.
The Body Sculpt
Good as it may be, the Star Wars black series general Kenobi action figure is far from perfect, preventing us from instantly calling this a classic.
Don’t get us wrong: the body is alright.
However, since it is the same sculpt used for the old clone trooper figures, there are some articulation issues you’re going to encounter.
The only difference is that the Star Wars black series clone commander Obi-Wan Kenobi figure features a couple of added nubs/layers on it to accommodate the cape-and-tunic combo.
This is one of those setbacks that sadly brings down the overall rating of a figure, but it’s absolutely no deal breaker by any measure.
After all, Star Wars collectibles in the Black Series line almost always have decent articulation, whether it’s a Clone Wars-era version of a character or otherwise.
Obi Wan KeNoggin’
As we’ve mentioned, the general Kenobi black series figure’s head sculpt is the best we’ve seen, and it’s a good thing that its articulation isn’t hindered.
Given that this Obiwan Kenobi clone commander figure has a lot of armor, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that none of those hindered its movement.
You could easily rotate it 360 degrees or move the head in a vertical axis with no issue whatsoever.
All thanks to its use of a ball hinge joint.
Clone Commander Arms
The rest of the body, though, has the kind of articulation you’ll get from a standard clone trooper figure.
The shoulders are attached to a ball joint and the biceps could swivel, so rotating it is no problem.
But given that the Star Wars black series general Kenobi figure has shoulder guards, you can’t raise its arms all the way up.
If you did, you’re risking snapping off that pauldron/shoulder guard, so be extra careful when posing this particularly area.
The elbows have trusty double joints, but you can’t fully fold them because the elbow’s sculpt has a thick bar between the figure’s biceps and forearms.
Still, this isn’t too much of a hindrance if you want to dynamically pose your star wars black series clone commander Obi-Wan Kenobi figure.
A Jedi’s Hands
As with most Star Wars the black series 6inch figures, this version of Obiwan Kenobi features swivel joints in the hands.
The left hand serves as his lightsaber-wielding one, while the right hand is sculpted to fit a blaster in there (doesn’t come with this toy).
All in all, this particular setup is nothing new; we’ve seen before in the old clone wars trooper figures Hasbro has released so far.
The Star Wars black series clone commander Obi Wan Kenobi figure has decent torso articulation because of its ball joint setup.
However, fully bending this part could risk stretching or even tearing the tunic’s fabric, so caution is advised when posing this area.
You get thigh swivels for the legs, so 360-degree movement is no problem at all.
Not to mention a decent amount of lateral and vertical movement for this part.
The knees, much like the elbows, are double jointed but hindered by a thick bar (this time between the calves and thighs of the figure).
This limits the amount of bend you get by a bit.
Finally, the feet feature rocker joints, so you could move them side-to-side in addition to the swivel joint that allows for vertical articulation in this area.
All in all, the Star Wars Black Series general Kenobi figure’s articulation in these areas are, to be short and sweet: serviceable.
General Kenobi’s Background
We all know Obi-wan Kenobi as the valiant, honorable, and dashing jedi from the Star Wars franchise.
However, an oft-overlooked part of his fictional biography is the role he played in the clone wars.
Set in the prequel trilogy, Obi-Wan Kenobi served as a general for the republic’s army.
He was in charge of hundreds if not thousands of clone troopers to fight against the separatist forces.
Set between Episodes II and III, Kenobi donned this trooper armor instead of his usual jedi robes.
That’s to better suit him for field battles, as he’s usually in the front lines.
Of course, by the time Revenge of the Sith rolled in, he went back to his old jedi garb.
But he kept that sweet-ass beard for us to marvel at.
Manufacturer: Hasbro Toys
The general Kenobi black series figure is a Hasbro release, one in their Star Wars line to be exact.
Being almost a century old, it’s the largest toy company in the world (and we’re not exaggerating when we say that).
Their Star Wars The Black Series line of figures is one of their bestsellers.
This Obiwan Kenobi figure is a sure-fire hit that will further cement that franchise’s status.
General Kenobi Black Series: Our Verdict
This particular version of Obi-Wan Kenobi is the kind of toy we had really high hopes for, and it delivered on it for the most part.
Unfortunately, the use of a dated body sculpt affected its articulation, and in turn held it back from being perfect.
Had Hasbro used a newer body sculpt like the one on their Black Series Zorii Bliss, this particular toy would have been far better.
However, if you’re looking at the overall quality of this character’s figure, then you still won’t be disappointed.
Despite its flaws, it still is one of the best Black Series Obi-wan Kenobi figures in the market
This General Kenobi Black Series action figure would look amazing in any display case.
